Craft Youth Culture: Registration is now open!

Are you a teen interested in taking free ceramics and fiber classes at Craft Contemporary?
Join other Los Angeles teens in our Craft Youth Culture program! Be a part of studio art classes, gallery conversations, art field trips, artist studio visits, special events and so much more.

The Craft Youth Culture program will meet weekly on Thursdays from 4 - 6:30pm (some changes to the schedule may occur) from September 26, 2019 - May 14, 2019. Applications are due by Sunday, July 21, 2019.

Programs & Workshops

'The RIDDLE Effect' Opening Reception  Saturday, June 1 | 6:00-9:00pm $12 entry / Free for members The RIDDLE Effect presents a survey of the sculptural work of artist John T. Riddle Jr. (1933–2002) and examines his influence as a foundational member of the Black Arts Movement in Los Angeles. The exhibition highlights Riddle's innovative art practice with several works exhibited for the first time in Los Angeles. Works by his students and colleagues will also be presented alongside Riddle’s to honor his expressive practice and impact on the L.A. arts community. This exhibition is supported by the Antonia and Vladimer Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund.

'On The Inside' Opening Reception Saturday, June 1 | 6:00-9:00pm $12 entry / Free for members On the Inside is a group exhibition of LGBTQ+ artists who are currently incarcerated. The artworks are made from basic materials the prisoners have access to behind bars: mostly letter-sized paper, dull pencils, ballpoint pen ink tubes, and unlikely innovations such as an asthma inhaler filled with Kool-Aid to create an air brushed painting. The project started with a call-for-art in the Black and Pink newsletter, a monthly publication filled with prisoner-generated content, giving birth to this collective exhibition.

CraftNight: Sign Painting Workshop with Art Divison Thursday, June 6 | 7:00–9:00pm $12 / Free for members (includes materials, drinks, and snacks) Inspired by our current exhibition, On the Inside, Los Angeles-based non-profit Art Division leads a unique sign painting workshop. Participants will learn basic hand-lettering techniques and will be encouraged to use paint and text to express their messages of love, empowerment, or political unrest. Space is limited. RSVP requested.
